Because of the current teacher shortage, many states will accept a Master’s degree in music education instead of requiring a standardized test. California[1] and Arizona[2] will accept a master’s degree in music education as a pathway to classroom teaching.

• ACM covers all the domains and proficiency requirements outlined in the GET Master’s of Education plan.
• After earning the degree, the graduate applies for a single-subject credential in Music Education.

The GET Details

The American College of Music offers a Master’s in Music Education program for students seeking a single-subject credential in music education. This plan provides a pathway to teaching music in the classroom, even if you do not have an undergraduate degree in music. Upon acceptance into the Master of Music in Education (MME) program, a faculty advisor will help you create a personalized course of study based on your undergraduate transcripts that covers all required subjects/topics to help you obtain a teaching credential in music education. Please note: This is not a credentialing program.
