The GET Program Process
Due to the current teacher shortage, many states will accept a Master’s degree in music education instead of requiring a standardized test (e.g., the California CSET or the Arizona NES), as long as it covers the five major domains of music education, along with instrumental/vocal and keyboard proficiency.
1. Aural Analysis (basic aural recognition of major/minor chords and progressions)
2. Music Theory
3. Music History (Western Music History, Jazz History, Band or Choral Literature, and World Cultures)
4. Music Methodology (Band, String, Choral pedagogy, and curriculum)
5. Classroom Management, Lesson Planning, and Special Needs Accommodations
• ACM covers all the domains and proficiency requirements outlined in the GET Master’s of Education program.
• After earning the degree, the graduate applies for a single-subject credential in Music Education.
